TPN Rock Live! Going Online and Streaming This Friday

Okay, get your diaries out, this is important. The Leith FM internet simulcast servers are up and running. But before I throw the big switch and start pumping the FM signal out over the internet waves, I need to know that it can handle a significant number of listeners. And the easiest way to do that is to get all you listening! So, pay attention…

I’ll be hosting a live TPN Rock Show this Friday (18th May). The stream will be running from 10pm to Midnight (UK Time). You will need to download and open this M3U file in your Media Player (but it won’t connect till the times below).

The plan is to make it full interactive as possible, and thanks to licencing I can get some rock classics in there as well (hey you all get to hear my warm up)! At some point in the show, I’ll switch the recorders on and record that week’s Friday Rock Show Podcast as well. But throughout the show, I’ll have my IM windows open (Skype: ewanspence and GTalk: ewanspence@gmail.com) so you can talk back to me during the show.

GMT: 2100-2300

Central European: 2300-0100

USA (East Coast): 1700-1900

USA (West Coast): 1400-1600

Australlia: 0700 (Saturday)-0900

New Zealand 0900 (Saturday)-1100

I know I’ve only scheduled two hours, but there is every chance that if you’re all hanging around at the end, I won’t stop, but just keep on going. Till we all fall asleep or run out of power chords.

And while I can’t confirm anything, there may well be a special guest in the first hour as well – just to make this a pod/broadcast to remember!

Stream TPN Rock Into Your Browser

Progress continues, with the TPN Rock blog now carrying an embedded Flash player on every podcast. So if you don’t want to download the show through your podcasting client, if iTunes is just too difficult for you, and right clicking on MP3 just isn’t for you, you can simply click a button and have TPN Rock stream through your browser. Here’s how.

(1) The player starts off closed. Press the play button to open and start the player.

(2) The speaker will give a visual representation when the show starts playing.

(3) The grey box shows where you are in the show. You can move this slider to skip tracks, listen again, and navigate around the show.

(4) The blue bar shows how much of the show has been downloaded to your browser. You can navigate to any blue section.

(5) Elapsed time counter.

(6) Pause/Stop playback. The player will close itself, but will remember your position when you open it again.

The TPN Rock Roadshow at O’Reilly’s Euro OSCon

Well, not quite a roadshow, but I couldn’t resist the headline! I’ll be attending the Maker Faire at O’Reilly’s European Open Source Convention 2005, at the Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, Amsterdam, on October 19th.

TPN Rock in Sixty Seconds (Promo #2)

Ever wanted to get the whole TPN Rock experience in sixty seconds? Maybe you want to try a show without investing the time? Maybe you’re a podcaster yourself looking to exchange promo jingles and adverts? Then you need the second TPN Rock Promo. With the editing scissors in hand, I’ve looked back over shows #11-#20 to get a couple of highlights that can be strung together into a jingle. Rather a long jingle, so three versions (100 seconds, 80 seconds and 60 seconds) for you to choose from.

And a new “half banner” button as well.

Rock Music Is Not Evil…

…It remains to be seen if I am or not. Looking back, I’ve not mentioned the newspaper coverage TPN Rock got in the last week. An ‘introduction to Podcasting’ style featured in The [Glasgow] Herald. The text has expired from the website, but I’ve put a copy up (along with the picture that ran with it) over on my blog, Ewan’s Musings. I had at least an hour with the photographer, and the second ‘TPN Rock DJ Card’ came out of that shoot – you can find the first 3×5 card here, and clicking through on either card will take you to a full sized version.

A quick check on TPN Rock in the Rock-O-Sphere shows a huge amount of traction. We’re gaining listeners by the bandwidth, more and more artists are getting in touch to see if they can feature in the show. That’s really appreciated, although I’m not relying on a bulging gmail box, I’m still hunting down the unknown every week.

For all you new listeners, a quick pointer about the TPN Rock Theme Music. I’ve had a couple of emails asking what the song is. Well, it’s called Bleed by The Revolutions (www.therevolutions.com), and it was the very first track played on TPN Rock in Show #01. I hope that, in the great tradition of Jessica, The Chain, Dragster, and other classic rock tracks, Bleed also becoes a theme that everyone in the world can recognise…

Some TPN Rock Buttons and Banners

The Podcast Network as a whole has had a nice facelift, especially on the front pages, and it’s time that TPN Rock caught up with the change. Changing it here is of course the easy thing, it’s getting everyone in the world with a music player that likes rock music to know about us as well – which is where you lot come in. I’ve put together a nice little bundle of buttons and banners you can use to link back to TPN Rock from your site, be it a blog, a band site, traditional website, or to print out and flyer your local fleapit bar while “The Gods Hate Kansas” mosh out. (BTW if there is a band out there called “The Gods Hate Kansas,” get it touch, because it’s a cracking name and deserves to be used).

On with the post, there’s a standard 486×60 banner, two buttons, and (after the fold) an impressivly big tower/skyscraper banner. If you do decide to drop a link back to TPN Rock, thanks!

Why Not Link To TPN Rock: The Rock Show?

I guess there may be some of you who want to promote TPN Rock: The Rock Show on the internet. If so, Mick’s made up this ‘Album Cover’ you can use on your site as a button (There’s a full size version in the full entry, but you might want to resize that one!). If you come up with anything else, then why not give us a comment and we’ll be happy to use your artwork and give you an ‘on-air’ credit.

Can we still say ‘On-Air’ for a podcast or is there some other fancy term? Anyone got an idea?

How To Get Onto The Rock Show

To all of you who are discovering “The Rock Show” right now, hi. I guess that some of you might want to suggest your favorite band or (shock horror) even be in a band yourself. If you think you or someone you know should be in a future Rock Show, then you need to let me know.

You can email me on ewanspence at gmail dot com. I’ll be happy with a URL pointing to a demo, or even a small MP3 file.

You can send demo tracks on CD to me. If you want my postal address, then email me and ask for it. Although you really should get with the times and discover this thing called “file attachments.”

You can burn any Shania Twain CD and chant your Bands name and the Track you want to submit. I won’t conciously pick it up, but the karma you’ll gain by destroying the silver discs might just lead me by chance to your bands homepage.
