From last week, with well known music podcaster Mark Hunter, to a podcaster who casts in a different genre altogether. Neville Hobson (along with Shel Holz) hosts For Immediate Release, a podcast looking at the marketing world. He’s also one of the founder members of Crayon, a marketing and promotions company based in the new virtual worlds, primarily Second Life.

As well as Neville’s thoughts on doing the Takeover (which he says he thoroughly enjoyed!) I’m getting some great feedback from all you listeners as well. Which I’m glad. I wanted to try something different with the Takeover, to bring in a different type of show each week, to bring in more musical influences and thoughts, and I think it’s succeed at that level. I also wanted to get over the idea that everyone who podcasts is a community - even though we might not all talk with each other. I’m glad that everyone (listeners, bands, hosts, and everyone else) enjoys the Takeover. I know I get a kick every week!

One of the ideas for the TPN Rock Takeover slot was to get in people you wouldn’t normally expect to be doing a music podcast, an I think that this is by and large something that’s happened. I also wanted to get some names that you wouldn’t expect to do a podcast at all.

For someone who’s been around since before podcasting was called podcasting, Eric Rice has never made a huge public noise. If you want to listen to him, you can. Even though he’s got his opinions on pretty much every Web 2.0 buzzword you can think of. His regular podcast mayhave stalled in the last few months, but I was looking forward to see what his TPN Rock Takeover show was going to be like.

…Okay that wasn’t what I had planned. Look, it all seemed to be going well, I was planning the show, next thing I know I’m trussed up more tightly than Harry Houdini in my cupboard. When I said takeover I didn’t mean literally. Did I?

Mind you, I have stressed that all the hosts need to do is run the theme music and then go wild and do what they feel is best for the show. I think I’ll need to alter the notes a little to disalllow coup d’tats in the studio.

In any case, a big thank you to Lynette for another fascinatingly entertaining show. I never know what I’m going to get when the MP3 arrives in the feed - apart from knowing it’s going to be an entertaining thirty minutes.

Wow, you’re all really enjoying this! The reactions from last week in my email box and through IM (I have a number of people who IM me when TPN Rock shows go out - ewanspence on Skype if you’re interested) all boil down to two simple ideas. You love the idea of having guest hosts, and you all adored Paul Nicholls’ show last week.

Good. Now it’s time to push the boat out a little bit. I was pretty sure Paul would deliver a show that was in a similar vein to the other TPN Rock shows, but I really want to bring in people with different styles to this slot - while the music is still one of the most important elements, so is entertainment. There are so any people out that can bring a new spin to this slot, and I’m going to do my best to find them.

This week’s guest host is Richard Vobes! From The Vobes Show, he describes himself as a 40-something entertainer, who has been podcasting since early January 2005 with his daily show - which is a madcape mix of chat, sounds, reviews and beer. But strangely, never full on music. Now is Richard’s chance, as the TPN Rock Takeover gets taken over by a man who’s never done music., and hasn’t even auditioned the tracks….

So here we go! With Iain safely (!) wrapped up nice and warm with his 28.8K dial up modem in Bethel, Alaska, it’s time to find another host to open up each week here at TPN Rock. So who better to ask than… everyone! As I mentioned on last week’s Friday Rock Show, I’ve decided to pull back the chair to the podcasting community at large and give as many podcasters as possible the chance to do a music show.

Every week, expect a different podcaster (who you would normally hear somewhere else) take up the challenge of bringing you the best unsigned, unknown and under-appreciated music from around the internet, direct to your ears/ Expect a wide range of music, some great voices, and some cracking choices. All I’ve said in terms of guidance is “make sure you use Bleed by The Revolutions as the theme music…” Every other choice is up to them.

First up, from Birmingham in England, is Paul Nicholls. The voice behind Podcast Paul (www.podcastpaul.com), one of the organisers of the highly successfull PodcastConUK events, and a thoroughly good chap that nearly caused me a heart attack in the first few minutes of today’s show.
